Apple's iPhone 17 Air: The Thinnest iPhone Yet Could Launch This Year
Apple is reportedly gearing up to introduce its thinnest iPhone yet, the iPhone 17 Air, as part of its 2025 lineup. Industry analysts estimate the device will be between 5.5mm and 6mm thick, making it slimmer than the 6.9mm iPhone 6, which debuted in 2014.
Prominent leaker Ice Universe claims the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.9-inch display, contradicting earlier reports suggesting a 6.6-inch screen. The device is anticipated to feature bezels similar to those of the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max model.
iDeviceHelp's design mockups show a form factor that keeps Apple's signature look while adding a unique camera bar that looks like one on Google Pixel devices. Apple's traditional square camera module is significantly different from this horizontal bar design. Among the most important features of the current iPhone 17 Air that have been leaked from internal Apple documents are the Dynamic Island, Face ID technology, and USB-C connectivity. In addition, the documents indicate that the buttons' positions will remain the same as they have been in previous iPhone designs. The camera bar design could offer both aesthetic and functional benefits, possibly enhancing device stability on flat surfaces—tackling a common issue with the protruding camera bumps on current iPhone models.
During its annual September event in 2025, Apple is expected to officially reveal information about the iPhone 17 Air and other iPhone 17 models. Industry experts point out that if the reported 5.5mm thickness is accurate, the iPhone 17 Air would be Apple's thinnest device since the discontinued iPod touch, which was 6.1mm thick.
